   SURVEY - Graduate Students

Faculty and Administration

Why is your partcipation in this study so important?

The purpose of this study is two-fold. The first objective is to seek your needs, and overall understanding of what is necessary for career and professional development at the graduate level. The second objective is to determine how graduate programs at Georgia Tech prepare students for the wide range of careers they pursue. These results will help us to frame a Professional Development Certification Program for graduate students here at Georgia Tech. This survey takes 15-20 minutes to complete and your participation is completely voluntary.

Our Professional Development surveys and assessment methods seek to answer the following questions:

  • What are graduate student perceptions of their career and professional development needs?
  • When do graduate students believe career development begins?
  • To what extent are graduate students taking active steps to prepare themselves for future professional opportunities.
  • To what extent do graduate students understand what will be expected of them? How are they becoming aware?

This assessment will identify specific needs and ways to build a career development system that has initial support from key participants. It will also provide information on what students and faculty believe can be most effectively addressed at the departmental level and which interventions are likely to be the most effective. It will also provide Georgia Tech Graduate Departments with qualitative and quantitative data to aid in addressing professional development issues that may impact degree completion and student preparation.

Are my responses confidential?

You may be assured of complete confidentiality. All results will be kept strictly confidential and participants will remain anonymous in any report or publication of the research findings. A copy of the official report of findings will be made available upon its completion. Your name will never be placed on the questionnaire or associated with any of your answers.
