Elections Information

Information concerning elections for President, Executive Vice-President, and Representatives for the Undergraduate House for the 2008-2009 year will be available in the early spring of 2008.
Guidelines and Information

What are the elections all about?

Every spring, the Student Government Association at Georgia Tech holds elections for the undergraduate student body to choose a President, Executive Vice-President, and representatives for the Undergraduate House. The House of Representatives is composed of more than fifty people of all majors and classes, and it is responsible for spending the money you pay each semester in your Student Activity Fee. Because Tech has over 15,000 students, SGA will spend approximately three million dollars of Student Activity Fee money next year.

Your money is important to you, and that’s why we hope you’ll take an active part in deciding how it’s spent by running for a position in the House of Representatives. There are two basic kinds of representatives: class representatives and academic representatives.

Class Representatives: Classes are determined by your class standing (the number of hours you’ve taken at Tech). Therefore, if you have less than 30 hours, you’re defined as a Freshman, etc. Students with non-resident credit can choose whether or not to include that credit in their class standing. Each class elects four (4) representatives to the House, and the one person who receives the most votes in each class becomes the Class President.

Academic Repsresentatives: Academic representatives (also called Major Reps) are elected from the various colleges and schools at Georgia Tech. In most cases, this is just the people in your major. Therefore, all the Management majors will elect a certain number of students to representatives them as their academic reps. This number varies from major to major (based on size), but every academic unit will elect at least one representative. (A full list with the number for each academic unit is posted at the bottom of this page.)

Other Positions: There are also a few other elected representatives in the House. Students participating in the Co-Op program will elect one representative to serve each semester (fall and spring). Also, varsity athletes will elect one representative to serve each semester as Athletic Association reps.
